Mt. Olive Hosts St. Lucia Staff Minister
Mt. Olive Lutheran Church was privileged to host Staff Minister Erik Landwehr and his family on Sunday, August 16. Landwehr serves Trinity Lutheran Church in Castries, St. Lucia. Since young people are the majority of the population of St. Lucia, Trinity has developed a strong youth ministry and outreach effort.
St. Lucia is an island of diversity, with a mix of many cultures and religious beliefs. The island is also diverse economically, with some very wealthy and some extremely poor families; the average annual income is just $6,000. Trinity plans to break ground for its first permanent worship facility and education space later this year, with plans to add on more facilities such as a covered basketball court so that they can reach out to many youth through this very popular island sport.
Staff Minister Landwehr, along with Pastors Tom Spiegelberg and Bramdeo Ramdolan, has a dual focus of sharing the saving truth of Jesus’ gospel while also training the congregation members to be the leaders of the church.
Mt. Olive has a Mission Partner relationship with Trinity Lutheran church. Mt. Olive helps support the ministry there through donations and prayers, and sends and receives regular communications as a way to get to know the people there and create and strengthen a personal connection with the church members.
